SJW, HF and Loyola 10th grade students spend their 10th grade year in Faith Formation classes at their Parishes or at Loyola Catholic School. Included in the Faith Formation at the parishes are the following: Attending a Net Retreat and Lifeline event. Active participation in the sacraments and continued growth in their prayer life. Leading faith formation events suchs as : Children's Liturgy of the Word, Stations of the Cross, and celebrating weekly Masses with their Parish. Loyola students are welcome to attend all special events.
At the Confirmation Orientation meeting, students and parents receive Orienation Packets and explanations of the two year process leading them to Confirmation in the Spring of 10th grade.
In addition to attending Faith Formation classes, 10th graders will attend Mass weekly, filling out Homily Notes to help reflect on the Scriptures and the Homily. Participating in the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist at Mass helps us know and understand our faith, and encourages us to live and love as Catholics following Jesus Christ in our daily lives.
Service to others allows God to show us what He can do through us by using our gifts and talents. 10th graders will serve their families, parish, and community during this formative year. Youth Masses, held the first Sunday of each month, will be an important opportunity to serve as well as Rake the Town, Feed My Hungry Children, and other opportunities presented.
Choosing a Sponsor and a Saint is discerned over time. We hope to have candidates decide on these by the beginning of their 10th grade year. 1. A Saints report and poster will be created in October and presented to the 8th grade class in February. Sponsors will attend a meeting and the Rite of Enrollment in January, and assist in formation of faith with Confirmation Candidates.
Interviews with Fr. Tim Reker, held in March, help Confirmation Candidates during their period of discernment. Students will then write a Letter to the Bishop requesting the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Confirmation will be Saturday, April 6, 2024 at St. Joseph the Worker Parish with Most Reverend Bishop Robert E. Barron. What a blessing to choose to receive the Gifts of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation!
