Youth who would like to become Catholic or were baptized in a Catholic or Christian Church but did not receive Catholic faith formation and the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Communion can receive instruction in the OCIC class.
OCIC stands for Order of Christian Initiation for Children and was previously called RCIC, Rite of Christian Initiation of Children. The program is taylored to the spiritual and faith formation needs of the youth. Students will continue and participate with their same aged peers in the faith formation program once they have completed the OCIC and received their sacraments. The usual age for reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation is at the end of 10th grade after 2 years of specific sacramental formation.
Parents will attend classes with their youth to enrich the faith learning experience of the family and for continued support in the home. Regular Mass attendance at St. Joseph the Worker or Holy Family is necessary as the Eucharist is the source and summit of our Catholic faith.
OCIC classes will be held during the Faith Formation school year from the beginning of October through the end of April, and will continue in the summer based on the needs of the youth in the program. Wednesday evenings from 6:00-7:15 PM are the classtimes.
